Meet Stacie Boord, Executive Director of Shadowbox Live

My name is Stacie Boord, Executive Director of Shadowbox Live.

Tell us how you are involved in NAWBO.

My first experience was emceeing and being the “entertainment” for an annual meeting a few years ago. I had no idea what to expect but by the end of the program, I was truly inspired. I became a member shortly thereafter and have since had the pleasure of hosting a few NAWBO networking events.

Tell us about your business.

Shadowbox Live, the nation’s largest resident ensemble theater company, presents over 400 performances of 19 original productions in its 300-seat theater. With an annual budget of 3.4 million dollars, our artistic works encompass original sketch comedy/rock 'n' roll shows, meta-media productions, rockumentaries and dance theater - all self-branded with a "rock aesthetic." Additionally, the creators and performers of the shows are the same artists that greet you when you arrive and serve you off our full bar and menu.

What inspired you to get into your business?

The opportunity to delve into theatre and rock ‘n’ roll fell into my lap as I was aggressively pursuing my opera degree as a sophomore in college. Thirty years and many job titles later, I still perform regularly and serve as the Executive Director of this dynamic organization. We aggressively develop new art forms and strive to make them accessible, challenging, and inspiring to our audiences. I’m truly inspired every day by the work we create, students we teach, partnerships we develop, and the amazing talent exhibited every day by my colleagues.

What are your three best practices or best tips that every NAWBO member needs to hear?

  • Be courageous
  • Share joy.
  • Express gratitude
  • Be authentic.
  • Show kindness.
  • Be truthful.

I know. That’s six. I’m a rebel.

What does your future look like?

What do you do in your free time?

I certainly LOVE exploring my skills in the culinary arts. I have a very well developed appreciation of red wine. I love working out. But spending time with my family is at top of the list. Especially when it involves travel and new experiences!
